Why drying matters: LuftWash after the wash

Bike drying after washing is not an optional finishing touch — it is the step that protects every wash you just performed. Do you need to dry a bike after washing it? Yes. A wet frame, drivetrain, and brake assembly invite corrosion, water spotting, and re-contamination the moment they leave the wash bay. For a commercial operation processing volume, skipping the dry stage undoes much of the value of the wash itself. cycleWASH built LuftWash (air-drying) to close that gap and complete the cycle properly.

Why a wet bike is a problem

Water that lingers after washing causes three measurable issues:

  • Corrosion. Standing moisture on chains, cassettes, bolts, and exposed steel accelerates rust. On e-bikes, water near connectors and the motor housing is a liability.
  • Water spots. Mineral deposits dry onto frames and components, leaving a dull, streaked finish that looks worse than before the wash.
  • Re-contamination. A damp surface attracts dust and grit immediately, so a "clean" bike picks up dirt before it is even returned to the customer or rack.

For a rental fleet, dealership, or service centre, these are not cosmetic concerns. They translate into warranty disputes, premature component wear, and rework.

What LuftWash does

LuftWash is the drying stage in the cycleWASH system. It removes surface water with directed air so the bike leaves the bay dry, not damp. The result is consistent: no manual towelling, no waiting, no streaks. Pairing washing and drying in one workflow is what makes the process repeatable at volume — the same standard on bike number one and bike number four hundred.

This matters because consistency is the entire point of a professional machine. cycleWASH is Made in Germany by CW Cleaning Solutions GmbH in Köln, backed by 32 patents and more than a decade of refinement. Over 350 units are in service across 24+ countries, and the systems have washed more than one million bikes. The drying stage is part of why that throughput holds up.

Drying and your care routine

Drying also sets up the next step properly. A dry surface is the correct base for protective treatments — lubricants, polishes, and protectants bond better to a dry frame and drivetrain than a wet one. If you finish a wash with the right care products, you want them applied to a dry surface, not diluted by residual water. LuftWash and care products work as a sequence: wash, dry, protect.

Where LuftWash fits in the lineup

LuftWash is one part of the cycleWASH ecosystem, which spans compact wash stations through full infrastructure:

  • Mini Station — EUR 13,990
  • Mini Basic — EUR 24,990
  • Mini Platinum — EUR 29,990
  • Pro — from EUR 42,000
  • OASIS — full-service installation
  • LuftWash — drying
  • Care products — finishing and protection

Operators who want a complete, self-contained wash-and-dry footprint often pair drying with the Mini Platinum, the top of the Mini line. The combination delivers a finished, dry, protected bike in a single pass.

The business case

A professional system is an investment, and the numbers are straightforward. Financing runs roughly EUR 280–480 per month over 60 months, and typical payback lands in the 12–24 month range depending on volume. All systems are DEKRA/CE certified. Drying is part of what justifies the spend: it eliminates manual labour at the end of every cycle and protects the components you just cleaned, reducing rework and warranty exposure.

Do you need to dry a bike after washing it? For a commercial operation, the honest answer is that washing without drying is an incomplete process. LuftWash makes the cycle complete.

Demo-clearance offer runs to 15 June 2026. Talk to cycleWASH about adding LuftWash to your wash setup, or pair it with a Mini Platinum for a complete wash-and-dry station. Explore the Mini Platinum →
